From hundreds of hours of footage across a gamut of post-revolution Iranian cinema, Maryam Tafakory distils a haunting twenty-minute collage which highlights how subtle and resourceful Iranian film-makers have been in suggesting powerful moments of intimacy without recourse to the act of touch.
advancing artists’ moving image
Film and Video Umbrella is seeking a Deputy Director (Maternity Cover) to support the organisation through an exciting and significant year that will see us delivering multiple artistic projects, including our expanding programme of online work.
Image from MU/T/T/ER by Kondo Heller now available on FVU Watch.
The Michael O’Pray Prize is an award for new writing on innovation and experimentation in the moving image. The prize is open to all early-career writers based in the UK and is free to apply to.
Tracing the minutiae of her familiar domestic space, Heller's MU/T/T/ER (2021) considers the intimacies and intricacies of inherited language in a poetic meditation on selfhood and belonging.
Film and Video Umbrella makes moving-image works by artists. For three decades FVU has led the way in championing new creative talent and promoting innovative ideas. During that time we have commissioned many of the foremost figures in the field, working in close collaboration with a diverse range of venues, nationally and internationally. Browse our project page to find out more and view clips of the works.
We aim to run at least one open call opportunity per year. Please sign up to our e-bulletin for updates.
